Conclusions. In this work, the MSWI FA is successfully co-disposed with Bayer red mud. The one-part geopolymer prepared from alkali–thermal activated RM implements the S/S of the MSWI FA. The S/S effect of the RM-based geopolymer with an amount of 50–60 wt% is close to that of 50–60 wt% OPC.
The red mud disposal based on mineral paste production depends mainly on the efficiency of solid-liquid separation and water content in the thickened tailing. Pastes must contain at least 15% (w/w) solids with particle size below to 20 μm to reach the desired consistency, making the segregation process difficult ( Meggyes and Debreczeni, 2006 ...

5-‐7/10/2015. waste or e-‐waste.1 One of so far untapped secondary source for critical raw materials is the so called red mud, which is a residue of aluminium winning from bauxite.3 Red mud is a highly alkaline mixture with a pH usually ranging from 10 to 13 which is the result of the treatment of bauxite with sodium hydroxide, heat and ...
Red mud (RM) is an industrial waste produced in large amounts during alumina extraction from bauxite. Its disposal generates serious environmental pollution due to high alkalinity. Therefore, a strategy for the effective utilization of RM must be developed. For instance, RM may be transformed into useful products, such as adsorbents. Given …

Acid mine drainage (AMD) remediation by red mud (RM) can benefit process sustainability and waste valorization. Though the AMD properties upon using RM have been broadly investigated, the key features and the environmental stability of spent RM are poorly defined. The current study aimed to compare the AMD neutralization and …
Moreover, considering the costs associated with red mud disposal, a lower iron oxide content of 35 percent becomes economically viable. The competitive pricing of resulting iron, ...
What is "Red Mud"? "Red Mud" is called a by-product/waste that derives from the alumina producing industries. It is called "Red" because usually has a red colour (due to iron oxides) and "Mud" because it is a slurry. It is often also named "Bauxite Residue" whereas proprietary names of processed Red Mud can be found, such as ...
Red mud with high alkalinity served as disposal catalyst for pyrolysis and gasification of coal. • Red mud could improve both tar quality during pyrolysis and char reactivity during gasification. • Light fraction in tar increased by 20.0% by use of red mud during coal pyrolysis. • The sodium in red mud was proved to migrate to the char ...
The insoluble product generated during bauxite digestion with sodium hydroxide at elevated temperature and pressure is known as 'bauxite residue' or 'red mud.' Due to its high alkalinity (pH ranges between 11.50 and 13), its storage and disposal become a major issue. It can cause problems such as contamination of groundwater …
Long-term stability and safety of red mud disposal field is very important for the local residents' life, which necessitates the knowledge of its creep behavior. Through the improved triaxial creep apparatus, a series of triaxial drained creep tests were conducted. The results indicate that the creep behavior of BRM is significant with confining and …
Global red mud manufacturing is anticipated to be 200 million tons annually. Red mud accumulation has surpassed 4.6 billion tons, and the world's red mud stockpile is steadily expanding 2,3. Red ...
A luminum production generates vast amounts of toxic red mud, approximately 180 million tonnes annually. ... Moreover, considering the costs associated with red mud disposal, a lower iron oxide ...
This paper identifies the effects of red mud spills on several lagoons of the Orinoco River located surrounding the red mud deposits. Chemical and mineralogical analyses of sediments indicate that the geochemical signature of red mud is evident in Los Caribes and Guadita lagoons, with elevated concentrations of Fe, Al, and Na and the …
Co-disposal of MSWI fly ash and Bayer red mud using an one-part geopolymeric system J Hazard Mater. 2016 Nov 15;318:70-78. doi: 10.1016/j.jhazmat.2016.06.042. ... In this research, Bayer red mud (RM) was pretreated through alkali-thermal activation process, and prepared as an one-part geopolymer …
The disposal of fly ash is becoming more expensive each year due to large land needs for its disposal [6], [7], [8]. The best way to solve the disposal problem fly ash is to decrease the quantity for disposal with the utilization of fly ash in the industry. ... Red mud, due to its high aluminum, iron and calcium content has been suggested as a ...
Abstract. Red mud is a by-product of alumina extraction from bauxite ore. It contains high quantities of alkali, minerals, and metal ions, which are typically pumped as thick slurry to a residue disposal area. Dry cake disposal is the most preferred technique for the disposal of red mud, which reduces the environmental impact.
This paper describes the production and characterization of red mud in view of World and Indian context. It reviews comprehensively the disposal and neutralization methods of red mud and gives the detailed assessment of the work carried until now for the utilization of red mud, pollution control, metal recovery, coagulant, adsorbent, catalyst and in soil …
Red mud is a solid waste of bauxite processing by Bayer process which involves caustic digestion of Al-containing mineral for alumina production.
